Life

A personal space for things I enjoy beyond research.

Music

I am from Harbin, China, a city renowned for its musical heritage. I play the flute, I listen often, and I enjoy singing. The styles of music I return to most often are Cantopop, Japanese songs (especially enka and Shōwa-era kayōkyoku), and classical music.

Below is a playlist of my personal favourites from the 1980s through the 2000s—a period to which I am especially drawn. Cantonese has a distinctive rhythm and musicality, qualities that I find particularly well suited to melody-driven songwriting.

Language Learning

I genuinely enjoy learning languages. Mandarin is my native language. Beyond English, I am especially interested in learning Cantonese and German. If you share an interest in language learning, I would be pleased to exchange notes and learn together.
